Notice of MOU
Further to my recent correspondence regarding a possible amalgamation between our club and Dee Why Bowling Club (the “DYBC”), and the subsequent presentation to DYBC members on Tuesday (11th May) night, sadly I must inform you that we were not selected to move forward as DYBC’s ‘preferred amalgamation partner’.
Tuesday night’s meeting involved the three short-listed clubs presenting a business case for the future of the DYBC site, post-amalgamation. Our Club believed that the best long-term solution was to demolish the existing club infrastructure and build a new club facility with some form of residential accommodation (home units/Over 55’s/Aged care living) and one bowls green as apart of the new complex. One of the other presenting clubs proposed a very similar model, I am told.
The ‘winning’ club (Manly Leagues Club) made a commitment to supporting two bowling greens for the next ten years, plus some additional, annual, financial support for Bowls. In our opinion that was an extremely generous offer. Manly Leagues will now prepare a legally binding Memorandum of Understanding which will be presented to, and voted on, by the memberships of both clubs. We genuinely wish both clubs, Manly Leagues and DYBC, the very best for their co-joined future.
That effectively ends the DYBC ‘journey’ but we will continue to seek out other amalgamation options that represent an opportunity for growth and a strengthening of our club’s brand and financial position.
